I photograph over 25 weddings at Colshaw Hall every year. My team and I know the venue extremely well, and working regularly with its brilliant staff and toastmasters helps us fit the photographs around the celebration. We know when a short walk for portraits can work, when to gather your groups and when to leave you to enjoy what is happening.

That familiarity gives us options, rather than a fixed list of poses. The light, weather, your timings and the people around you all help shape your photographs. Our approach is documentary-led, with gentle direction for portraits and an eye for the moments you might otherwise miss.

Bridal preparations, groom preparations and the little details

The morning is part of the story: dresses and suits, flowers, jewellery, a carefully arranged flat lay, friends getting ready and those first reactions when someone sees you dressed. Window light gives us beautiful opportunities for quiet portraits, while the preparations with your bridesmaids and groomsmen bring a different energy.

If there are particular details, gifts or reveals you would love photographed, tell us before the day. We can plan around them without turning the morning into a lengthy photo session.

Ceremonies, confetti and family photographs

From the walk down the aisle to the reactions in the seats, we photograph the ceremony as it unfolds. The portfolio includes indoor and outdoor ceremonies, showing how different each celebration at Colshaw can feel.

For confetti and groups, we choose a suitable setting around your ceremony arrangements, the weather and the available light. A short family group list and someone who knows the guests help this part run smoothly. We make room for the formal photographs you want as well as the hugs, laughter and conversations around them.

Our favourite photo locations at Colshaw Hall

The hall frontage gives portraits a recognisable Colshaw backdrop, while the courtyard, doorways and brickwork offer more intimate compositions. The gardens, lawns and trees give us space for relaxed walking photographs and a choice of shade on brighter days.

By the water, reflections and the surrounding greenery can change the feel of a photograph completely. We might use a wide view to show the setting, then move closer for something more personal. The collection above shows these locations across different weddings and lighting conditions.

Golden hour, rain and photographs after dark

When the evening light is right, a short walk outside can give you a lovely pause together and a different set of portraits. Golden hour depends on the season, cloud cover and your timetable, so we keep the plan flexible.

Rain does not mean the photographs have to stop. We adapt using indoor light, suitable sheltered settings and breaks in the weather where they work for you. After dark, a few portraits with flash can bring another look to the grounds. The priority is always your comfort and time with your guests.

Speeches, live entertainment and the dance floor

A wedding gallery should feel like the whole day. Alongside the portraits, we look for the expressions during speeches, guests catching up, children playing and the atmosphere around your tables. In the evening, that continues through first dances, live music and the celebrations on the dance floor, within your chosen coverage.

This portfolio deliberately mixes those moments with venue views and portraits. It gives you a broader picture of our work than a collection of couple photographs alone.

How much time should we allow for portraits?

Around 10–15 minutes is a useful starting point for a short portrait session, often while guests are being called to dine. We will discuss your plans beforehand and adapt on the day. If the light and timetable allow, a second short outing later gives you more variety without one long break from your guests.
